Ancher, MichaelDanish Impressionist artist Michel Peter Archer (1849-1927) is often called the most popular Danish artist. In his childhood, Archer was not a very good student. He was not able to finish middle school, and when he got his father into financial trouble, he hd take care of himself at his father’s wishes. For a year, he worked as a clerk. At last, a fateful meeting with painters Theodor Philipsen and Vilhelm Groth started him on the journey towards art. He devoted himself to art fully, regardless of his previous failures, he studied at art school and then briefly at the Royal Danish Academy. After his studies, he went to the fishing town of Skagen, where he gained inspiration for many of his paintings, which earned him the name of an amazing painter of fishermen and associated scenes ( Fishermen Releasing a Boat). His works can be seen in a house in that city, where he lived with his wife Anna.
