Salvator Mundi, translated as savior of the world, is a painting by Leonardo da Vinci depicting Jesus Christ . The work dates from around 1500. The painting shows Christ in renaissance clothing. He gives a blessing with his right hand and holds a crystal ball in his left hand. The painting thus depicts him as the savior of the world according to the idea of the time. About 20 versions of the painting by Leonardo's students and successors are known, the original painting itself was long considered lost.

He used a distinctive colour blending technique known as sfumato. His attempt to capture the character, mood and expression of people was also significant. Among his most famous works are The Last Supper, Lady with an Ermine, Self Portrait and of course Mona Lisa, which is one of the most famous works of art in the history of painting.
