Hugo van der Goes (1440-1482) together with Jan Van Eyck, one of the most important Dutch masters. The first mention of his life comes when he entered into the painter’s guild of Ghent in 1467. He worked on the private decorations for the wealthy inhabitants of Ghent. He entered the monastery at Qudergem near Brussels. He painted altar triptychs and richly coloured religious images, such as Fall of Man, in which he captures the fateful moment of the expulsion from Paradise. In Adoration of the Kings, he again emphasizes detail.
