Jeanne Hébuterne was the wife of expressionist painter Amadeo Modigliani. They met when she was 19 years old. She loved him despite his fondness for alcohol and drugs. Modigliani contracted tuberculosis and died in 1920 at the age of 36. His devoted wife loved him so dearly that she could no longer live without him and committed suicide the day after her husband's death. They were laid to rest in a common grave. She died before her 22nd birthday. Modigliani naturally dedicated many of his portraits to her.
