Harald Sohlberg (1869-1935) was a Norwegian painter. He received his artistic education from the famous Scandinavian painter of the Romantic period, Eilif Petersen. Sohlberg became famous after his military service in 1892. On his first trip to the open air, he was mesmerized by the city Røros, which became the subject of his studies and frequent themes. After the death of both parents, he increasingly painted natural scenery. He was misunderstood for his art and hardly recognized by artists of his time - even his compatriots, and so he shunned contact with them. Everything changed during an exhibition in 1914, where he gained recognition and acceptance among painters for his latest picture, Winter Night in the Mountains . At the end of his life, Sohlberg resorted to painting urban scenes of the capital, as was his habit, late at night. He died of cancer.
