Baroque painting Descent from the Cross is one of three versions of the work of the same name by the painter
Peter Rubens . The original painting dates from 1612-1614 and is very similar to this one (composed in 1617) in terms of composition and use of colors. The third version from 1618 is already different in slightly larger scales, mainly compositional, but it is still clear that the painting was created by the same artist using the same techniques. The inspiration for the creation of a painting with this theme was an order by the brotherhood of arquebusiers for the Cathedral of Our Lady in Antwerp, Belgium. Rubens painted the picture at the same time as the Elevation of the Cross, which also ended up on the magnificent altar of this cathedral. Rubens also created other works based on the motifs of Christ's crucifixion, such as
Crucifixion or
The burial .
Rubens painted picture The descent from the cross in 1617. Prevailing color of this fine art print is dark and its shape is portrait. Original size is 425 x 295. This art piece is located in Musee des Beaux-Arts, Lille, Francie. This image is printed on demand - you can choose material, size and finishing.
Petrus Paulus Rubens (1577-1639). Native German baroque painter. His work represents the perfect
Baroque style, both in terms of composition (the interaction of colours, shapes and light) and themse. His paintings deviated aesthetically at the time – he often painted sensual female figures rationalistically. They are full of dynamics, colours and emotionally tense scenes. His work is independent, more personal and more informed than the creations of his time. For this reason, he significantly influenced his contemporaries.
