Samuel Palmer (1805-1881) was an important British
Classical painter and graphic designer. He was born to a London bookseller and Baptist spiritualist and a nurse. From childhood, he painted churches. He was a disciple of William Blake. Under his leadership, he painted
rocky landscape in Wales. He married a woman 14 years younger and they spent their honeymoon in Italy, where Palmer garnered inspiration. His best work comes from his later period. Often, he painted large watercolour paintings illustrating Milton’s poem L Allegro and Il Penseroso. Many of his works were burned after his death by his son.
