Jules Joseph Lefebvre (1836-1911). French figurative painter and theorist. Already during his lifetime, he was a successful painter. He exhibited his portraits and nudes in the Paris Salon and became a member of the Academy. He taught painting (among his pupils were 1,500 Americans) and highly influenced the art scene at the time.
