The painting represents a winter landscape with a frozen river. In the foreground are bare trees and bushes, several harbour buoys and a small boat moored at the shore. The outline of buildings, perhaps a village or town, can be seen on the horizon in the background. The use of brushes and paint suggest that this is an impressionist style of painting. The sky is covered by a thin layer of clouds, giving the scene a cold, wintry feeling.
