Roses
Date:
1893Dimensions:
76.5 x 67.5"Roses" by
Peder Severin Krøyer was painted in 1891–1894 when Marie and Peder Severin Krøyer rented Mrs. Bendsen's cottage in Skagen. In the painting, Marie Krøyer is sitting in a lounger with her dog Rap at her feet. The blossoming garden is highlighted by a blooming white rose bush in the foreground, which completely covers the house.
The rose bush is a historical type of rose called Alba Maxima, which can also be found in the garden of the Skagen Museum today.
Krøyer's painting bears several similarities to two paintings that the French
impressionist Claude Monet painted in 1872. "The Rose" is among Krøyer's masterpieces, and his choice of subject and depiction of light make the painting a fantastic example of how the Danes were artists in the late 19th century influenced by the French impressionist. The painting was a gift to the Skagen Museum from an anonymous donor and is a relatively new addition to the collection. Krøyer painted picture Roses in 1893. Prevailing color of this fine art print is green and its shape is landscape. Original size is 76.5 x 67.5. This image is printed on demand - you can choose material, size and finishing.
