Johan Jongkind (1819-1891). Dutch painter considered the forerunner of the Impressionists. He most often painted landscapes, the sea and the waterfront (in The Netherlands or France). He used watercolour for his sketches and then repainted them in the studio using oil on canvas. The images are crisp with vivid colours.
