The father of John Constable owned several mills in Dedham Valey. From a young age he was constantly being taught how the mills worked, so it is not surprising that he captured them in his paintings. The movement is depicted using reflected light in the water. Furthermore, the entire agricultural landscape behind the mill is bathed in sunlight. From the side, however, it is oppressed by the storm clouds that have always fascinated John so much. At the same time, we can notice Constable's respect for man in the form of the washerwoman and the miller himself and their harmonious life with nature.
