The image is a detail from the painting The Three Ages of Woman. The Three Ages of Woman is a clear example of Climt'ssymbolic works. He continued to paint such works until his death in 1918. The painting depicts a little girl hidden in the arms of a young woman, with a naked old woman standing behind her with her head bowed. The hunched granny is meant to be a symbol of the passage of time, her figure is based on a statue by Augustin Rodin (1840-1917) called The Old Courtesan. Rodin's works have always been Klimt's undisguised admiration. The black background is highly unusual for Klimt until the creation of this painting, only later appearing more frequently in his works - in contrast to the brightly coloured decorations of the depicted figures. In 1911, the painting won a gold medal at the International Exhibition in Rome. Prevailing color of this fine art print is vivid and its shape is portrait.
