Holy Cecilia
The painting depicts a woman dressed in historical clothing, playing an old organ. She is wearing a richly decorated dress with striking folds and is shown in profile as she leans slightly towards the instrument. Above her head is a circle that resembles a halo, suggesting that she could be a religious or spiritual figure, perhaps a saint. The image has a dark background that emphasizes the figure and her clothing.

Giovanni Francesco Barbieri (1591-1666) was an Italian
Baroque artist whose work was mainly influenced by
Caravaggio. Barbieri mainly painted religious scenes. In 1621,
Pope Gregory XV invited him to Rome to decorate several religious buildings with frescoes. After the death of Pope, he left Rome and painted larger commissions for Christian orders -
Madonna and Baby. During his life, he made about 100 large altarpieces and another 150 works. He never married and so his property, which was considerable, was inherited by his nephew.
