Date: 19th century Medium: watercolours, paper Location: Musee des Arts Decoratifs, Paris, France
The painting depicts a fantastic scene with a running ghost in a translucent white garment. The ghost has distinctive black hair waving in the air and appears to be escaping through a dark, mysterious forest at dusk. The surrounding trees have red and orange hues and are shrouded in darkness. Several black cats can be seen in the foreground and several skulls are scattered on the ground. The whole atmosphere of the painting is restless and magical.
