Spencer Gore (1878-1914) was an English painter of the Post-Impressionistic period, born to a land merchant. Ever since he was a child, he showed a talent for painting, which he then studied at the Slade School of Fine Art. He was also a good athlete. His first paintings were modest landscapes and pictures of cricket matches, which he enjoyed playing. At last, seeing the works of the great masters Seurat and Monet inspired him and helped him to create his own, unique style . Gore also painted landscapes on his stay in London. In particular, the painting The Icknield Way feels warm and welcoming thanks to the colours utilised. He also captured a beautifully warm Autumn in Sussex. His most famous work is a repeated painting of landscapes in Richmond Park. It was also his last picture, as he died in 1914 of pneumonia.
