James Montgomery Flagg (1877–1960). American painter and illustrator. His work includes creations for media, comics to fine art painting. He illustrated books, magazines, political and humorous comics. However, he was immortalized in the history of art with his posters. At one time he was among the highest paid illustrators in the US. This recruitment poster is from 1941, it is a pastel depicting Uncle Sam (a personification of the United States).
