The painting shows a group of people who look like they could be in ancient Greece or Rome. The central figure, a woman, stands holding an object above her head while other figures sit or stand nearby. The woman is wearing a blue dress and has a gold belt around her waist. It may be a scene from myth, mythology or history. The painting style is impressionistic with blurred and dynamic brushes.

Henri Fantin-Latour (1836-1904). French romantic painter known for his portraits of Parisian artists and floral still lifes. From the beginning of his career, he devoted himself to copying paintings by old masters. Perhaps that is why he barely touched on Impressionism, although he was in contact with Impressionist artists. Under the influence of Whistler, he directed his attention to England, where he began to sell his still lifes. He did so well in England that in his native France, his paintings become almost unknown. Later, he started focusing on lithography that symbolically expressed the music of Wagner.
