Processing this image uses Dürer white and ink on a self-made colored blue paper. The drawing shows two men clasped hands, the rest of the body except the indicated sleeves ohrnutých not shown. According to speculation it could be on hand the master himself. This is a sketch of the hands of the apostle, which was to be shown in the middle panel of the triptych altar Heller, who was, however, in 1729, destroyed by fire. Total Dürer created 18 other sketches for the altar piece.

Contact with Italian artists allowed him to transfer inspiration from the Renaissance style (humanism, Greco-Roman classicism, Mediterranean bright colors, etc.) to the height of the German Gothic.
