John Peter Doctor (1940-1992). American illustrator, graphic designer and painter. He came from a small town on the east coast and it took him a long time before he found his independent artistic path. He took several manual labour jobs, which set him up to become a cartoonist in newspapers and an illustrator of books. He also painted idealized and stylized landscapes, where he often - inspired by Klimt - used gold. He liked painting in a distorted and flat perspective.
