He used this motif for the first time in the painting "Dream Caused by the Flight of a Bee around a Pomegranate a Second Before Awakening" in 1944. A fish emerges from a pomegranate, from which two tigers jump out, awakening an otherwise peacefully sleeping and dreaming woman. The painting refers to the influence of Freud's theory of dreams on Dalí and other surrealists. The original can be found in the Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza in Madrid.
