Ramon Casas i Carbó (1866-1932) was a Catalan Spanish artist. He was born in Barcelona and ever since childhood, he studied painting. He was a co-founder of the magazine Avenç. With his cousin, he fled to Paris, where he also studied art at the Academy of Carolus Duran and Gervex. He painted mostly
female nudes. He alternatively lived in Paris and in Barcelona, Madrid and Granada. There, he created a highly detailed work showing the crowd in Madrid bullring or
a procession from the church of Santa Maria del Mar. After his recovery from tuberculosis, Casas lived for some time in the famous Montmartre district of Paris in the Moulin de la Galette. His fame grew with each new exhibition. Increasingly, he organized his own exhibitions with his friend Rusiñol. He died at 65 as a respected painter in Barcelona.
