Procession from the church of Santa Maria del Mar
The picture shows a city scene full of people gathered for what looks like a festival or celebration. In the foreground, people can be seen wearing historical clothing, while the vast majority of the crowd is dressed in the normal clothing of the time. Many people are wearing hats on their heads and appear to be watching an event off camera. The predominant colors are dull, suggesting that the photograph may be historic or colored to look antique. The buildings and lamps in the image add a European character to the scene.

Ramon Casas i Carbó (1866-1932) was a Catalan Spanish artist. He was born in Barcelona and ever since childhood, he studied painting. He was a co-founder of the magazine Avenç. With his cousin, he fled to Paris, where he also studied art at the Academy of Carolus Duran and Gervex. He painted mostly
female nudes. He alternatively lived in Paris and in Barcelona, Madrid and Granada. There, he created a highly detailed work showing the crowd in Madrid bullring or
a procession from the church of Santa Maria del Mar. After his recovery from tuberculosis, Casas lived for some time in the famous Montmartre district of Paris in the Moulin de la Galette. His fame grew with each new exhibition. Increasingly, he organized his own exhibitions with his friend Rusiñol. He died at 65 as a respected painter in Barcelona.
