On Leeward Islands
The painting depicts three indigenous inhabitants, and appears to be a scene from everyday life. In the background, a thatched-roof hut can be seen in lush greenery. On the left stands a woman with ornaments in her hair, a necklace and a small red garment. Another woman sits in the middle, nursing a baby, and a man stands to the right, looking away from the group. All three have decorated waists and are wearing minimal clothing, suggesting they may come from a warm climate.
