Adolphe Bouguereau was a French academic painter of the 19th century and is known for his realistic and precise portraits and figure paintings. His paintings were known for their faithful depiction of figures and objects. He painted with a high degree of realism and detail. Many of Bouguereau's paintings depicted children. His way of capturing childhood innocence and fragility was admirable. Bouguereau was able to capture the emotional expressions of the characters in his paintings. His figurative compositions often radiate calm and harmony.

In his choice of topics, he was a traditionalist: he painted mythological scenes and modern interpretations of Classicist themes (with an emphasis on painting the female body). Bouguereau admired Raphael, and even gave him one of his paintings. In his time, he was considered one of the finest painters, even abroad. At the end of his career, his paintings began to seem too traditionalist, with techniques embedded in the past. In some encyclopaedias, his name even ceased to appear. To date, however, we can consider some of his works beautiful and inspiring.
