The painting shows a woman sitting outside with two children who have wings, representing angels or cupids. The woman has dark hair, directs her gaze directly at the observer, and is dressed in a white underdress and purple bedspread. The angels appear to whisper or play with the woman's hair in an attempt to get her attention. The background of the painting is a vague green landscape with a hint of forest.

William-Adolphe Bouguereau (1825-1905). French academic painter. In his choice of topics, he was a traditionalist: he painted mythological scenes and modern interpretations of Classicist themes (with an emphasis on painting the female body). Bouguereau admired Raphael, and even gave him one of his paintings. In his time, he was considered one of the finest painters, even abroad. At the end of his career, his paintings began to seem too traditionalist, with techniques embedded in the past. In some encyclopaedias, his name even ceased to appear. To date, however, we can consider some of his works beautiful and inspiring.
