Room with clematis
The painting shows a bright room with blue curtains on the window, which is permeated by sunlight. On a round table with a white tablecloth stands a vase full of flowers, which is the main motif of the work. Below the table, part of an ornate carpet can be seen, and to the right of the table is part of a chair with a floral design. The walls are almost devoid of ornaments and show soft shadows and reflections of light, creating a cosy and peaceful atmosphere.

Anna Archer (1859-1935) was born in the Danish town of Skagen. She studied painting in Copenhagen, where she developed her own distinctive style. She painted interiors,
Room with Clematis, and the lives of ordinary men, women and children. She liked playing with colours and sunlight, which can be seen in the picture
Sun in the Blue Room. In 1880, she married and despite the social pressure on a married woman, she did not succumb and continued painting. After Anna’s death, a museum was constructed in her house. In 2004, she was eternalised on a banknote along with her husband.
