Dutch artist David Teniers (1610-1690) was born in Antwerp. He was influenced by
Peter Paul Rubens. His early work falls under the guild of St. Luke in Antwerp, where he painted religious motives. His paintings stand out for their play of light and shadows, colours and a realistic depiction of the characters. In 1644, Teniers became chairman of the Guild.
