Riguard Hyacinthe (1659-1743) was born into an artistic family. He picked up the basics of painting in his father’s workshop, but a big influence on him were the works of Baroque giants Palu Rubens Peter Tizian Anthony van Dyck and Rembrandt. Rigaud lived and worked in Lyon and then moved to Paris, where he painted portraits of wealthy businessmen and bankers. During the reign of Louis XVI, whose coronation he painted, Hyacinthe was sought out for the impressive poses that he painted on his portraits. The royal family, government officials, nobles and others wanted Rigaud to immortalize them and were willing to pay for it. It is not so surprising that his life works are portraits of, more or less, all important personalities that shaped the future of France. Many of his paintings are in the museum at Versailles and the Musée des Beaux-Arts.
