Mary Hiester Reid (1854-1921). North American modern artist. She studied art with Thomas Pollock and Thomas Eakins at the Pennsylvania Academy. Reid looked for inspiration during her honeymoon in European capitals. She painted American landscapes - Countryside in October. Later, she switched to botanically accurate floral still life, such as Chrysanthemums in a Japanese arrangement. For those, she was considered a leading Canadian classical painter.
