Three houses and a bridge

Date: 1922
Medium: watercolours, wood
Location: private collection

Tři domy a most is a famous painting by the Swiss artist Paul Klee that he created in 1921. The painting represents an abstract scene that includes three houses and a bridge. Klee was known for his unique and expressive artistic style, which combined elements of cubism , surrealism and abstraction . In the painting "The Bridge" by Paul Klee, you can see the geometric shape of a bridge that connects three houses. The bridge is depicted as a complex system of lines and shapes that communicate with each other and create an impression of movement and dynamism. Houses are also abstracted into basic geometric shapes such as circles and rectangles.

The image creates an impression of an urban environment that can evoke different thoughts and emotions. Klee's work was often inspired by his own thoughts and feelings and therefore can have different interpretations. This painting is just one of many outstanding works by Paul Klee and is often considered an important step in his artistic development. He is known for his complex and enigmatic visual language that draws the attention of viewers and raises various questions about meaning and interpretation.

Paul Klee (1879-1940). From childhood, he was interested in both music and painting, but as is evident, finally decided on painting - his paintings are among prized artworks. In Munich, he met Kandinsky, Franz Marc, and other artists of the then avant-garde. He met also his future wife, pianist Lily Stumpf. His work is associated with a expressionism, cubism, and surrealism. He was one of the four Die Blaue Vier (with Kandinsky, Feininger and Jawlensky). He taught at Bauhaus and the Düsseldorf Academy until 1933, when the Nazis declared his paintings a figment of a sick soul and with labelled his whole creation as degenerate art. Klee was extremely hardworking and after his death, he left behind 8926 works in Switzerland. Klee’s paintings are fragile, with a sensitive use of color (his colour mixing ranks among the world’s best) and frequent references to poetry, music and dreams.
