Venus and Cupid

Date: 1524-1525
Medium: oil on board
Location: Köller Müller Museum, Otterlo, Nizozemí
Dimensions: 84 x 208.3

Hans Baldung became an apprentice of a painter in his 16 years and that is why he has the epithet Grien (which means "Greenhorn"). He was strongly influenced by the Italian Renaissance and painted mythological characters - such as Venus on this painting. Venus, Roman goddess of love, beauty and fertility, sits right to her son, Cupid, who holds a flaming arrow as flaming symbol of love. He is blindfolded so he could not see the truth that God's love is always stronger than physical love between people. The body of Venus is naked, in size greater than common and contrasts sharply with the black background. Grien painted picture Venus and Cupid in 1524-1525. Prevailing color of this fine art print is brown and its shape is tall. Original size is 84 x 208.3. This art piece is located in Köller Müller Museum, Otterlo, Nizozemí. This image is printed on demand - you can choose material, size and finishing.
