Irises

Date: 1890

"Iris" ("Irissen" in Dutch) is an oil painting by the Dutch painter Vincent Willem van Gogh . This work was created in 1889, during his stay in a mental hospital in Saint-Paul-de-Mausole, France. The painting depicts irises in a flower garden and is one of van Gogh's many floral motifs. The main motif of the painting are irises, flowers with pointed, sword-like leaves. Irises are shown in various shades of purple, blue and white. Van Gogh captured the structure and texture of flowers in detail. The painting has a bright and heavenly background that contrasts with the intense colors of the irises. This background gives the image airiness and light. The flowers are placed in the center of the image, creating an impression of fullness and harmony. Van Gogh favored balance and compositional structure in his paintings. Van Gogh's painting technique is known for its free brushwork and expressive brush strokes that contribute to an impression of spontaneity and emotional intensity. Van Gogh put his emotional energy into his paintings, and the painting "Iris" clearly expresses his passion and interest in flowers as a subject. Flowers in art can carry symbolic meaning. Iris can be seen as a symbol of kindness, pride and divine wisdom. Van Gogh was fascinated by the symbolism of flowers.

Vincent Willem van Gogh (1853-1890). Dutch painter belonging to Post-Impressionism. His paintings (some 900 paintings and 1,100 drawings and sketches) are among the most famous in the world and are sold for exorbitant sums (except for those in our shop). Parisian Impressionists He lived in Paris from 1886 and was influenced by the use of bright colours - most of his works were painted during this period. In his paintings, Gogh uses contrasting colours (often blue and orange - he said that I want to use colours other contrasts to each of them shone even more to contrast a man and a woman). He was known for his excesses and amputated an ear after the break-up of his friendship with Gauguin. There is a lot of speculation about this incident (he possibly suffered from heavy metal poisoning from paint that had caused mental problems). In 1890, unfortunately he committed suicide.
