Ramon Casas and Pere Romeu on a Tandem
The picture shows a drawing of two people riding a tandem bicycle. Both are wearing white clothing, probably typical of the late 19th or early 20th century, including hats, white shirts and trousers. One is wearing a dark coat and black socks, while the other is wearing striped socks. An urban silhouette is suggested in the background and a bag is attached to a bicycle. The scene looks comical, with both figures exaggeratedly portrayed with characteristic features and facial expressions.

Ramon Casas i Carbó (1866-1932) was a Catalan Spanish artist. He was born in Barcelona and ever since childhood, he studied painting. He was a co-founder of the magazine Avenç. With his cousin, he fled to Paris, where he also studied art at the Academy of Carolus Duran and Gervex. He painted mostly
female nudes. He alternatively lived in Paris and in Barcelona, Madrid and Granada. There, he created a highly detailed work showing the crowd in Madrid bullring or
a procession from the church of Santa Maria del Mar. After his recovery from tuberculosis, Casas lived for some time in the famous Montmartre district of Paris in the Moulin de la Galette. His fame grew with each new exhibition. Increasingly, he organized his own exhibitions with his friend Rusiñol. He died at 65 as a respected painter in Barcelona.
