Gray Hunter with a women's seat

The painting shows a white horse in the background standing on grass against a background consisting of trees and a cloudy blue sky. The horse looks calm and is wearing a saddle and reins. His coat is shiny and carefully maintained, with a characteristic muscular body, typical of a well-trained riding horse. In the background you can see the tops of the trees and the gentle transition of the horizon.

Prevailing color of this fine art print is dark and its shape is landscape. This image is printed on demand - you can choose material, size and finishing.

Jacques Laurent Agasse (1767-1849) was Swiss landscape classicist born in Geneva. He studied at art school, but at 20 years, went to study veterinary medicine in Paris. He utilised the acquired knowledge of anatomy when painting racehorses ( Gray Hunter with a Lady’s Saddle Chestnut Hunter and Bay Hunter) and other animals ( Guanaco). He travelled between France and Switzerland until a rich Englishman asked him to paint his dog. He was so pleased with result that he offered Agasse a journey to England, where he continued painting animals. At the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries, he was considered the best painter of animals. They say that despite all his glory, he lived and died modestly.
