Ballgame in Choctaw

The painting depicts a historical scene with a large number of Native Americans depicted fighting or dancing on an open plain. The men are mostly nude or wearing minimal clothing and are decorated with war paintings. Some are armed with spears, bows and arrows. Their camp can be seen in the background with tipi tents and dense forests with hills completing the scenery.

George Catlin (1796-1872) was an American traveller, writer and painter of the Romantic period who specialized in portraits of Native Americans in the Wild West. His mother kindled his interest in indigenous people through her tales of how she had been captured in childhood. Catlin was born in Pennsylvania and even as a child conducted expeditions to uncover Indian relics and artefacts. His first works were engravings. After a brief career as a lawyer, he exhibited his main collections of Native American motifs. As a traveller, he accompanied General William Clark on a diplomatic mission and published a book about his journey between tribes across America. Among the best known are the Cheyenne or Assiniboine. He captured not only Indian chieftains but also cruel Torture of Prisoners or a public ballgame. Between 1830-1838, he painted more than 500 paintings. After returning home, he founded his own Indian Museum, where he exhibited his works and gave lectures about his experiences that he gained among the Indians. With his collection, he travelled throughout the US and European capitals. He tried to sell his collection to the American government several times. They, however, steadfastly refused. Finally, due to personal debts, he had to sell everything to industrialist Joseph Harrison. He spent the next 20 years forming a second collection known as the Cartoon Collection, numbering 400 paintings.

Blurry Althought the service was great, the quality of the picture is a bit disappointing: it looks blurry. Maybe it is because of the size I ordered it in, but I think that it could have been signalized or warned about before the printing.

Highly recommend this company! I recently purchased a canvas art print from Craft fine art. The timing and shipping were perfect, however when I received the piece it was darker than I'd expected. I contacted the company and they apologized and had no problem printing out a new image, sending me a photo to approve, then sending it right off to me, and it was perfect! Great communication, really nice people to deal with, and excellent shipping, beautiful work. Looking forward to the next pieces I'm ordering. Many thanks!

Very good experience Requested a painting as gift for one of my siblings. The product is very well and of high-quality, very much appreciated. The package was good while the delivery takes longer due to logistics issues in the country of destination. However, when requested, the shop has kept us posted about the package tracking.

Good quality prints but awkward to hang My two framed prints arrived within a reasonable time. The print quality and the framing is good. My only criticism is that the only means of hanging the print is via a brass "eye" (I don't know the technical term) at the top of the frame on the reverse side. You can put a hook into it, but the hook will be partially visible. I would have preferred that a string be attached to the reverse of the frame to allow hanging.

High quality and Integrity This company I would highly recommend. Their prints are extremely good quality and there is a feeling of integrity and care.. If all companies were like this the world would be a far better place! I would recommend to the customer though having your delivery sent to the carrier depot nearest to you rather than your house, as reviews for the carrier being able to find your house are not always good. It is then guaranteed that you receive your goods.
