Aubrey Vincent Beardsley (1872 - 1898). English illustrator and writer. His black and white ink drawings were influenced by Japanese woodcuts. They emphasize grotesqueness, decadence and eroticism. He was friends with Oscar Wilde and James A. McNeill Whistler. His contribution to the development of Art Nouveau was very important, despite his early death due to tuberculosis.
