Frida Kahlo (1907-1954). Mexican painter of world renown. Her style is characterized by the use of rich, vibrant colours. In her paintings, she combines the influence of Mexican culture with European Realism, Symbolism, and Surrealism. Many of her works are self-portraits emitting a strong inner pain. Her husband, who also had a great influence on her works, was another famous Mexican painter and communist Diego Rivera (Rivera stood behind her successful career as a painter). Frida became extremely famous after her death, in the 70s, when the world was experiencing fridomania. This repeated in a new wave in 2002 after the premiere of the Hollywood film Frida.
