Eugene Delacroix (1798-1863). After the untimely death of Gericault, Delacroix became a leading representative of French romanticism. His pictures experimented with colours, and he enlivened his images by placing different colours side by side so as to mix in the eye of the viewer. This opened the door to the birth of Impressionism. Delacroix’s work forms a unified whole, and his talent was able to combine romanticism, classicism, oil painting, graphics and other techniques.
