Thomas Fearnley (1802-1842) was a Norwegian painter of the Romantic period and a pupil of Johan Christian Dahl. He was a very educated son of a merchant - he graduated from the Norwegian National Academy of Craft, Art Academy in Copenhagen and the Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm. He was married to Cecilia Andersen, daughter of the greatest banker of the time. After studying, he received a commission from Crown Prince Oscar and then other members of the royal family. Fearley travelled a lot. He visited Venice, Rome, Sicily, Switzerland, Paris and London. On these trips, he painted beautiful landscapes with wildly romantic themes ( Terrace with an Oak Tree in Sorrento), waterfalls and untamed wilderness (< a href = Fearnley-Thomas-the-grindelwaldgletscher-Ido-5978> Grinderwaldgletscher). Fearley died at 39 due to typhus. Part of his lifelong work is stored in the National Gallery in Oslo.
