Georges-Pierre Seurat (1859 – 1891). Francouzský postimpresionista - průkopník pointilismu, který změnil směřování moderního umění. Nedělní odpoledne patří mezi neslavnější a uznávaná díla. Jeho prvním větším obrazem byla Koupel v Asnieres, které bylo ovšem odmítnuto Salonem. Seurat se proto rozhodl pro dráhu nezávislého umělce. Zabýval se teorií barev a optikou a věřil, že barvami dokáže vnést na obraz harmonii a emoce (stejně jako to dokáží hudebníci).
