Ignac Sanchez

The painting shows a portrait of a boy dressed in traditional clothing with a large straw hat. His face conveys a serious expression and the boy stands against a simple background with a blue sky above and two shades of earth below. The painting has strong contours and blocks of colour, indicating the stylization characteristic of certain artistic movements such as primitivism.

Diego Rivera (1886-1957). His full name was Diego María de la Concepción Juan Nepomuceno Estanislao de la Rivera y Barrientos Acosta y Rodríguez. He was a Mexican painter. He became famous for big wall frescoes, which helped establish the Mexican Mural Movement. He also painted these paintings in large US cities. He was born in Mexico, but he managed to study in Paris, where he was influenced by Post-Impressionism (large areas of colour, which were used by Cézanne). In Italy, on the other hand, he studied Renaissance frescoes. In Mexico in 1923, he joined the Communist Party and began to paint wall murals, which reflected the 1910 revolution. He developed his own style of painting - simple and stylized characters, bright and saturated colours – which was influenced by Aztec art. Rivera belonged to the radical left and his attacks on churches and other institutions brought him many enemies, even among Communist Party members. For some time, Trotsky lived with him. In 1929, he married another famous Mexican painter Frida Kahlo. For mutual infidelity and wild quarrels, the relationship ended in divorce in 1939. In 1940, however, they remarried.
