Franz Marc (1880 – 1916). Německý expresionistický malíř celým jménem Franz Moritz Wilhelm Marc. Jeden ze zakladatelů umělecké skupiny Der Blaue Reiter. Dlouhodobě se přátelil s Augustem Mackem. Zdaleka nejčastěji maloval zvířata (koně, srnce či kočky). Srnce si dokonce pořídil a choval je. Zvířata nemaloval pro katalogy zoologických zahrad, ale snažil se vystihnout jejich duchovní podstatu. Jednoduché a často nepřirozené barvy vyjadřují emoce a harmonii přírody. Zemřel v roce 1916 v bitvě u Verdunu.
