Italian Baroque painter Sebastiano Ricci (1659-1734) began his career with the Venetian painter Frederic Cervelli. He worked in Bologna where, for example, he painted the famous picture Diana with her Dog. He alternately adorned the frescoes of Venetian churches and chapels in Bologna with religious motives. He briefly lived in England, where he participated in the decoration of the houses of rich burghers. He worked hard and later departed from Paris a wealthy man. Although Christian themes were his main topic, he himself did not behave as a Christian. He left his wife and daughter and ran off with another woman in Venice, whom he later also left for many other love affairs.
